 WHAT IS THIS? Sound of the Surf is a movie/documentary about the history of surf music. The cool and new thing about this project is NOT the simple historical meaning, that information can be found today everywhere on the internet. It is more than this. It is a story told by the people who made surf music great since the 60s with an eye on the cultural effects that originated this phenomenon. It tells how surf music was diffused around the US originally and the role of young people in all this. FOCUS ON YOUNG SURFERS AND ROCK 'N' ROLL Surf music is fun, that is how it was born. At the same time it is way of life, it is an attitude derived from the political, economical and ethical influences in California in the early 60s. Through the words of musicians, writers, surfers and fans Sound of the Surf just analyzes these aspects and explains them in an easy language. THE CREW The main character inside the Sound of the Surf project is John Blair. John has written books, articles, produced music and has become a milestone in surf music's history worldwide. With his band Jon & The Nightriders he is one of the responsibles for surf music's "second wave" on the early 80s. He is the one who better than anyone else said how this genre grew and was diffused. SOUND OF THE SURF AND SURFER JOE MUSIC With great honor we collaborate with Sound of the Surf participating to the project, to its future promotion and its present development. The crew came to the SJ Summer Festival 2008 to film and produce video and audio material to be included in the movie. Lorenzo and Luca have been interviewed as representatives of the European scene, as bookers, events' organizers and opinionists. We really appreciate that and believe this movie will increase the interest in surf music everywhere. UPDATES (October 29th, 2008) The shootings are proceeding well, some more old-school artists have being interviewed for the film. Names you don't even imagine to see on the screen... this will be a great movie! Still no detailed news about when the movie will be completed, but the direction says that the time of Spring 2009 should be confirmed. Surfer Joe Music will organize a few parties in July (before the Summer Festival) to showcase the video with some of the bands involved in it.
