It was Spring 2002 when I decided to open this web site,
trying to put all my energy in promoting Italian surf music worldwide by showing that we can also play some good rock 'n' roll...
And the first reaction was a kind of strange as nobody knew about the existance of an Italian surf music's background or
bands playing a genre that was considered an American/Californian privilege.
But since the 60s in Italy, and of course all over Europe, a large number of bands have taken inspiration from surf and beach music,
when USA was still too far from us and iternet was just a dream. So between italian beat, mods, psychedelic atmospheres and rock 'n' roll,
surf music has found in the country, during the years, a good base and first class bands were born.
Going back to SurferJoe, my idea was to put together the Italian surf bands under a common name and show them around, and the
result has been definitely good (not without waste of money as SurferJoe has always been free for everyone).
Apart from this web portal we have organized lots of concerts and parties, also involving surf brands to unite surf as sport and music
when possible, even if the two things have followed two separate ways since the 60s.
As part of a very small and little diffused culture, surf music, SurferJoe has arrived to have more than 5.000 unique visitors per
month with incredible notes of appreciation from everywhere in the world, making good friends in various countries. An that has been the
greatest gift to me!
I want to thank my own hands that have developed the code of this web site line by line, plus I would really like to thank all the friends who helped me
so much: Niki (my wife, she has been closed to leave me twice because I was touring with some bands), the Pipelines (my beloved Italian Beach Boys band), Pitulo (my co-worker for 3 years), Andrea Sardelli (who gave me the first input in starting this
web site), Lucabeat (my old friend), Claudio "Il Santo" (a soul made of surf music and a very good friend), all the bookers I have worked with, all the clubs and finally all the bands that came to play to SurferJoe's events and that
represent the heart of this web site.

LORENZO VALDAMBRINI
I'm first of all a surf music's fan. I have been playing surf music since I started having gigs with my bands and especially with the Pipelines
I had the chance to play a lot... visit many places and know many people. This helped me to expand my music knowledge and understand many different points
of view. I think this is fundamental in order to create your own ideas and feelings about the music you like. And I have to say that I'm not a critic,
I like what I like and I have my preferences, but at the same time I have developed SurferJoe to help people knowing about the background behind this music
genre and the many bands who really love this kind of sound. I hope SurferJoe will remain a good way to support surf music together with all the other web sites
and associations around the world.
Lorenzo is Italian but lives in Antigua & Barbuda, Caribbean, since 2004.
After taking a bachelor's degree at the University of Pisa (Italy) he has been working as web developer. He is presently the owner of Caribit Limited, software development and computer services.
He plays drums professionally in Antigua and Italy with the Hot-Doggers (rock 'n' roll combo) and the Wadadli Riders (instrumental surf, www.wadadliriders.com),
and he is the lead singer for the Pipelines in Italy.
